Sometimes it’s easy to lose track of what is important during the holidays. As the year winds down and comes close to an end, this is a time for your stressors to be put on a shelf as well. It is a time to sit back and appreciate what you have, especially the people who are important in your life. What better way to share time with your family over the holidays, then to walk together through an outdoor Holiday Market?

Boasting the largest and most well-preserved Victorian architecture in North America, the Distillery District of Toronto is the perfect setting to host a European-style Holiday Market. This type of market originated in Europe (most notably, Germany), in the 1400s, and today’s version in Toronto has stayed true to the tradition.

Sparkly lights hang over the toques of those all bundled up and ready to explore the 13 acres of holiday cheer. Here you can find traditional toys, and something that everybody loves—food!

From Schnitzel sandwiches to beer nuts, fudge and peanut brittle to poutine, there is something for everyone, so make sure to come with room in your stomach. After trying out the delicious snacks, you can head down to the beer gardens where you can choose from their wide variety of beer and European Holiday cocktails. Their most popular choice, a good one to warm up, is their warm mulled wine.

If you are looking for something more on the kid-friendly side, a Winter Village just wouldn’t be right without caroling, which of course is part of the event. Look out for the Candy Cane Carolers, this is perfect for children who love to sing along. But of course, words can’t do much justice to such a magical and visual event, it has to be experienced.
